Garage Door Cable Repair and Replacement
Your garage door cable is an essential part of the safe operation of your garage doors. The garage door cables ensure that your garage doors run not only smoothly but also safely. Depending on the size and style of the garage door, there are a variety of different cable lengths, types, and sizes.
Extension springs are an older, outdated spring type that by today’s standards, are not safe. When extension springs or their supporting cables break, they can become projectiles. They can cause damage or harm to surrounding areas and persons. We recommend replacing all extension spring systems with torsion spring systems.
Torsion springs are located above the door opening. They are mounted on a torsion tube and when they break, they simply release kinetic energy in place. When opening your garage door, the cables on the spring system help to wind up the cable assisting it to open. Once the door is open, the spring controls the weight of the door to let it down slowly. As the door goes through cycle after cycle, the springs weaken and can eventually break.
