Different types of garage door cables
Depending on what model your garage door is, there are a variety of different garage door cables that you’re going to encounter. In the following section, we’ll briefly explain some of the different types of garage door cables you’ll meet.
- Torsion Spring Systems – Torsion spring systems are located horizontally above your garage door and usually have cables that are looped at one end, and crimp stopped at the other end. The looped end is traditionally found at the bottom of the door while the crimped end of the garage door cable is attached to the drum.
- Extension Spring System – Extension spring systems will stretch down both sides of your roller door track and require both lift cables and safety cables. The safety cables are the single most essential component of an extension spring system. If the safety cable fails, all the tension in the spring system will release.
If you notice that any of your cables aren’t functioning correctly, or appear worn or damaged, you should stop using your garage doors immediately as they could fail and drop without notice damaging your door, your car, or you. When your garage door cables need maintenance or repair, we can have one of our experienced and professional teams dispatched to your location on the same day.
